CASE STUDY 1: Mining

The Australian Mining & Resources Sector have invested goodwill and finances into increasing the representation of women in their workforces and creating ‘safe places’ for all personnel to grow and stretch. Success is both a team and individual effort. This is Jo’s Case Study.

The Context

Seeking additional career opportunities within her company, Jo, an Engineer, wanted an external perspective on how she could increase the likelihood of successfully transitioning into new roles and become a spokesperson on Gender issues within the sector, while leveraging a recent National Award without sacrificing her values as a Mum or being pigeon-holed.

How We Worked Together

My colleague Leia, introduced Jo and I in Brisbane at the Queensland Mining & Resources Exceptional Women in Australian Mining & Resources Awards. Within a few short weeks on her return to Adelaide, Jo and I agreed to work together. Jo funded her development, investing in her own growth vs. the employer sponsoring her participation. Jo combined our POWERHOUSE Coaching Program, with engagement on our LinkedIn and Facebook posts to achieve results, during and beyond the sessions.

Outcomes

  • Values alignment
  • Executive Presence
  • Negotiation Skills
  • Communication Phrases
  • Peak body representation within her own state
  • Further awards and recognition
  • Increased clarity, conviction and confidence to achieve her goals

Jo is a dynamic person of influence and one of our exceptional clients. We continue to cheer Jo on in her recent success as a FINALIST in the Women in Mining Awards. Read More About the Awards HERE. Connect with Jo Barry-Perry on LinkedIn.

This is a little of Dannielle’s Story…

The Context

Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. Somewhere in Australia, there is a new call to Lifeline every minute. Dannielle was a senior executive within the national leadership team of Lifeline Australia.

Like many NGO’s the challenges of working in a state of rapid change, with a diverse workforce and service portfolio, spread across a national geographical footprint was both inspiring and challenging. The increasing Governance and strategic focus required high-level accountability, communication and cultural evolution.

How We Worked Together

Dannielle and I knew each other from previously working for another NFP years before. Danielle was given the opportunity to work with an executive coach by her CEO at Lifeline and as she was certain she wanted me in her corner.

Dannielle and I began executive coaching while she was in Canberra and I was in Brisbane. Utilising phone, Skype and face to face Danielle diligently used our Corporate Cinderella Signature 7 Framework, completing the Coaching Reflective Journal, and implemented many of the operational tactics I recommended for integrating the new team post-restructuring.

Dannielle sought a lifestyle change from the Canberra cold and sought my expertise in Executive Transition, to apply for senior roles in the sunshine state. Dannielle engaged me separately for this next phase.

  • Values reflection
  • Boundaries discussions
  • Cultural diversity and dynamics

CASE STUDY 2: Education

Educating our kids is important. We want Teachers that truly dig their job, that like the people they work with and recognise the impact they have on the young ones in their care and the people they work alongside of. This is a little of AC’s Story…

The Context

AC had been working for Education Queensland for many years. A Gen X, working in an environment with high schoolers living with various types of disabilities, AC was deeply committed to maximising everyone’s abilities. There were some entrenched attitudes within the workplace, leadership was relatively supportive, but the culture was deeply resistant to change. AC was beginning to wonder is it me? Why are people like this? How can I be better?

How We Worked Together

AC and I met at a Brisbane Teachers Professional Development Night. The Principal had received my details from a professional speaker colleague of mine and brought the two of us together. Receiving the brief and attending on site, the Principal introduced me to the audience in a way that perfectly opened up to a discussion on values and do we know what each other stands for?

AC approached me that night and asked if I did coaching. We began working together over the space of a year and did so using various formats: phone, Skype and face to face.

with engagement on our LinkedIn and Facebook posts to achieve results, during and beyond the sessions.

Outcomes

  • Values reflection
  • Boundaries discussions
  • Cultural Diversity and dynamics
  • Equipped for navigating robust conversations
  • Communication strategies & key phrases shared
  • Peer mentoring and circle of 5 – Influence review
  • Greater contribution to workplace and role redesign & opportunity
  • Nurturing high value relationships and career promotion and relocation

AC is a brilliant woman and someone I respect highly. We continue to stay in touch through Facebook and touch base regarding her career progression.
